"My son can't talk. Today (Monday), he made effort to hold my hand but couldn't," he told IANS.

Avinash would undergo an operation on Tuesday as bullet shrapnel were stuck in his eye, said Daya Ram, who drives a taxi.

Daya Ram said he had been running from pillar to post to arrange the money for the surgery, adding that he had paid around Rs two lakh in 24 hours to the hospital for his son's treatment.

On Sunday evening, he recalled, Avinash left for the kabaddi match in a ground barely 100 metres from his house.

"I was standing in the street when I heard a loud sound. I thought the children may have burst a firecracker," Daya Ram said, adding that he ran towards the ground when someone told him that his son had been shot.

He demanded the arrested of those who shot at his son.

Baaniya said police teams have been formed to nab the two accused who have since been identified.
