The president of the BJP's Kodagu district unit in Karnataka was Thursday shot at by unidentified assailants, police said.
M.P. Shuja Kushalappa was attacked in Virajpet, about 35 km from here.
He suffered an injury near the neck and was shifted to a hospital in Mysore, after treatment at a Virajpet hospital, Kodagu Superintendent of Police M.N. Anucheth told reporters.
A Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson said Kushalappa, brother of Madikeri BJP legislator M.P. Appachu Ranjan, was out of danger.
He said a group of people fired at Kushalappa near the sub-registrar's office and sped away in a car. He said political motive appeared to be behind the attack and urged the government to conduct a probe into the incident.
