The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA)on Monday voted out former chief minister and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah as its president.
Manzoor Wazir of the Kashmir Gymkhana cricket club told IANS here that of the 64 cricket clubs in the state affiliated to the JKCA, 42 took part in internal elections,
Imran Raza Ansari, the Jammu and Kashmir sports minister, was elected the new president of the JKCA, Wazir said.
Mehboob Iqbal would be the new chairman, Muhammad Iqbal the general secretary and Abdul Rouf the new treasurer, he added.
This is the first time Farooq Abdullah has lost control of the JKCA after 1980 when he was first elected president of the association.
Critics have accused Abdullah of financial impropriety in the cricket body.
