The Janata Dal-United on Friday accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of betraying the residents of the 1,642 unauthorised colonies and said that it will fight for their regularisation.

"Kejriwal-led AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) came to power by promising regiularisation of the unauthorised colonies, but no work has been done to regularise it," JD-U General Secretary Sanjay Jha said at a press conference here.

"He has betrayed the trust of lakhs of people residing in unauthorised families. It was they, who voted for him in the Delhi assembly elections and gave him the historic mandate," he said.

Highlighting the plight of the residents of the unauthorised colonies, Jha said, "The people living there face number of problems, as no water connection is given to them and they have to rely on water tankers for their needs. Even there are no proper roads in these colonies.

"Even if the people residing there, most of whom who are migrants want to take loan by mortgaging their properties, they cannot do so," he said, demanding that the Delhi government allow registry of their homes and the plots.

He also said that his party, which has earlier very small presence in the national capital, will organise a meeting of its Delhi party workers on Sunday.

"After the formation of the JD-U's Delhi unit last year, we contested in MCD elections this year and the results were encouraging.

"Thus the party has decided to organise a Delhi workers meeting on Sunday, where Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be the chief guest," he added.
