Former double world champion Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya believes she will be ready to reclaim her title in the 5,000m race at the Beijing World Championships in August.

Cheruiyot, 31, has competed in three Olympics but she is yet to clinch a gold medal, the only jewel missing in her trophy cabinet. But with an eye on competing in the marathon in the Rio Games in 2016, she still has unfinished business on the track, reports Xinhua.

Beijing will provide the platform for her to reclaim her past glory though she acknowledges the challenge of emerging talent can't be wished away.

"I want to win the World Championships again. But I must work hard to get the rust off. I have not got a smooth sailing since I returned to training," Cheuiyot said here on Monday.

"I missed the World Cross because I was not ready, but I will test my endurance and speed in the Diamond League starting with Oregon, US on May 30," she said.

The competition will be geared towards helping her gain maximum performance as she focuses on the World Championships in August.

Cheruiyot, who is returning to competitive action after maternity leave, confirmed that she will be competing at the inaugural FNB OneRun 12km in Cape Town on May 17.
