Frankfurt Marathon champion Mark Kiptoo, while expressing his happiness at winning, said his focus is now on the Beijing World Championships in August 2015.

"It has been a good test for me. I have just shifted to the marathon and I am still sure I can get a medal in Beijing," Kiptoo said Tuesday, reports Xinhua.

He believes that with the win, he has proved that he can perform for the country in marathons and wants the selectors to consider him, specially with Kenya losing to Uganda at the 2013 Moscow World Championships in the 42 km race.

"Selection for the national team is based on coaches and merit. I have done my part and now have top podium finish in my three marathons," he said.

The 38-year-old made his debut in 42 km in 2013 and finished second in Frankfurt. His attempt in Paris in April ended with a tendon injury as he pulled out midway through the race after just 30 km. However, he has returned to showcase his talent and won in Frankfurt.

Kiptoo, who was eyeing to run a personal best time, was unable to attain his goal as he clocked two minutes, 6.24 seconds ahead of compatriot Mike Kipruto Kigen (2:06:59) while another Kenyan Gilbert Kollum Yegon was third in 2:07:08.

"I am happy the reception at home has been worth a champion. Now I am inspired to return to the international arena and try and lower my time and win more marathons," the 38-year-old said.

"Prior to running in Frankfurt, I competed at the Glasgow Half Marathon and it was a bad move. That was just three weeks before the race and it left me worn out. That is why I couldn't run under 2:05 minutes.

"If I am selected for the World Championships in China, I will be available," said Kiptoo.

Coach Sammy Rono said he was proud his athletes had reigned supreme in Frankfurt.

"It was not easy for one camp to win the top positions in marathon but they did easily," Rono said.
