Two film personalities in Kerala on Monday welcomed the Bombay High Court ruling clearing for release of film 'Udta Punjab' without the cuts demanded by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

"The entire controversy was needless and the censor board is unnecessarily interfering. I am happy now that the court has intervened to make way for the release of the film," popular film director Kamal told reporters here.

Amateur film-maker Sijo Kannanaikkal said: "It's rather strange that after all the hard work of making a film, one has to approach the courts."

Kannanaikkal is engaged in his own struggle with the CBFC over some scenes in his film 'Kathakali'.

He has been asked to remove certain scenes from the film for it to be certified.

The Bombay High Court on Monday overruled the CBFC-recommended 13 cuts for Bollywood film 'Udta Punjab' and cleared the film for release with one cut and three disclaimers by the filmmakers.
