The Kerala government Friday launched a probe into the death of a 19-year-old nursing student, who jumped from the 10th floor of a private hospital here.
The incident took place at the Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital last week. Rogi Roy succumbed to injuries after battling for life for a few hours.
In a Facebbok post Friday evening, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala announced the government's decision to launch the probe.
"The parents came and met me and I also felt sad seeing their condition and immediately I ordered a detailed probe to be conducted by Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner H. Venkitesh," Chennithala told reporters later.
E.M. Najeeb, one of the directors of KIMS, said they welcome the probe and would fully cooperate with it.
Last week, the hospital authorities had said Roy was asked to give an explanation following complaints from junior students that she had ragged them.
