Kerala on Saturday recorded unusually high temperatures and the Met Office said the state may witness further rise in the mercury in the next few days.

Palakkad recorded 37 degree Celsius, Thiruvananthapuram 36 degree, while most other districts recorded around 35 degree Celsius. Kerala normally records 30-32 degree Celsius around this time of the year.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said temperatures could rise 2-4 degree Celsius across the state the next week.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has warned residents, especially those living in Thrissur, Malappuram, Palakkad and Kozhikode districts - the worst hit districts -- to be careful as temperatures could go up by even 8 degree Celsius.

It also advised people to stay indoors as far as possible between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and drink more water to avoid dehydration.
