In a first, three road shows are being organised in major cities of the United States as Kerala Tourism enters the American market.

The first show was held in New York Monday with the second in Chicago Tuesday and the last one scheduled in Los Angeles Thursday.

"The United States is the fourth major market for Kerala Tourism after Britain, France and Germany," said Tourism Minister A.P. Anilkumar, leading a delegation of government and industry representatives.

"An increase in visitor arrival from the world's biggest economy will be significant for tourism growth in the state," he added.

Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur attended the New York road show in which 58 US travel and tourism trade sector members participated. India's consul general in New York Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay also attended.

The highlight of the event was a presentation of the state's top tourist attractions by Kerala Tourism secretary Suman Billa.

"Americans are one of the top global travellers and therefore, it is only logical that Kerala Tourism is making inroads into the vast market offered by the US," said Billa.

A Mohiniyattam (classical dance form from the state) performance on the occasion gave a peep into the traditions and culture of Kerala.

The state witnessed a rise in US tourist footfalls (57,807) last year, up from 55,741 in 2011.

Air India is sponsoring free economy class round trip tickets for the winners of lucky draws being held at each road show venue.

The winners also get a free 10-day holiday in Kerala.
