Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), acting on a request from Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), named late Bengal cricketer Ankit Keshri as the 16th squad member during their Indian Premier league (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens here on Sunday.
KKR and CAB also announced to donate Rs.10 lakh each to Ankit's family during the match.
"KKR have honoured CAB's request to include Ankit as the 16th member in their squad against #RR #RIPAnkitKeshri," a tweet from IPL's official Twitter handle on Sunday.
"We would only be too happy to do so and an opportunity for KKR in a small way to remember Ankit and the premature end he faced," Venky Mysore, KKR CEO, said in a letter to CAB.
CAB also wrapped the Eden Gardens stadium with a portrait of Keshri with a caption - "Ankit Forever".
Keshri, 20, a former Bengal Under-19 captain, sustained injuries while fielding on April 17 during a CAB senior knockout match and passed away on April 20 after a massive heart attack.
