Can common-place objects like egg-trays and safety pins be turned into art forms to convey the importance of wildlife conservation? A group of children in the city, including the differently-abled, have done exactly that.

An exhibition here titled 'Conservation Crusaders' showcases models of extinct animals and those endangered like vultures built out of match-sticks, egg trays, clay mounds, broken potteries, shampoo containers, safety pins, clothesline clips, tin-cases, rubber sheets and Plaster of Paris.

"We named the exhibition 'Conservation Crusaders'. All the students from the school delightfully participated in the exhibition for showcasing their best hand-made products from the waste," Geeta Lal, co-ordinator and teacher of the school Akshar, one of the organisers, told IANS.

"The differently-abled children also showed great enthusiasm in making various items. This shows no barrier - physical or mental - can stand in the way if one has the determination to create something new," said Lal.

Concluding July 20, the 12-day exhibition at Harrington Street Arts Centre, will also lure the environment-conscious shopper with stalls of eco-friendly bags. Akshar is collaborating with the NGO Kadam for the endeavour.
