Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah Thursday urged Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to enhance its marketing, design and sales techniques and promote its products among the youth.
Inaugurating the 146th Gandhi Jayanti celebrations and Diwali special rebate sales at Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan here, Rosaiah said: "It is high time that the KVIC comes forward to enhance its marketing, design and sales techniques so as to compete with other companies."
Rosaiah said promotion of khadi and village industries products is imperative among people, especially youths, as the products are eco-friendly.
The governor said the KVIC should come forward to expand and train its craftsmen and enhance their skills.
According to him the mention of khadi product brings its purity to the mind. Its products should reach every doorstep.
Rosaiah said Mahatma Gandhi's idea behind the village industries schemes was that not only should the craftsman in villages get an earning, but also to make us look at villages for supply of our daily needs.
"His mission was to make villages self-contained and manufacturing mainly for their use and in addition to that for the requirement of people in cities," Rosaiah said.
