The Election Commission (EC) Thursday extended the last date for summary revision of electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir to Jan 31 to ensure error-free rolls.
Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi announced this in the winter capital Jammu during a high-level meeting to review the preparedness for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Zutshi asked all district election officers to provide copies of electoral rolls to the political parties before their final publication.
While discussing the security scenario for the elections, he said detailed discussions were also held with state additional director general of police (operations) P.L. Gupta to chalk out a comprehensive security plan.
Zutshi directed the district magistrates to prepare a security plan and undertake vulnerability mapping to identify the critical polling stations.
He stressed a multi-tier training programme should be taken up to keep the officers and security personnel concerned abreast of their duties and EC guidelines.
Zutshi also asked the district election officers (district magistrates) to convene interactive sessions with members of political parties and candidates to keep them informed about the model code of conduct and directed strict monitoring to check these norms were adhered to.
