Kerala's ruling LDF sperhead CPI-M announced on Monday that it will organise, on December 29, a 700-km-long human chain extending from the Raj Bhavan here to the northernmost Kasargode to protest the demonetisation drive which has crippled the state's cooperative banking sector.
A Communist Party of India-Marxist statement issued here said that it has directed all the Left Democratic Front cadres and supporters to see that they arrive at their designated places by 4 p.m and by 5 p.m they all should stand with their hands held together .
"The human chain will basically be staged on the national highway from here to Kasargode, while in the southern districts where the national highway does not pass through, they have been asked to join the human chain at Alappuzha, while in districts like Idukki and Wayanad, there will be separate protests. This is basically to register our protest against the centre's wrong policies with regards to demonetisation," said the statement.
The CPI-M have organised similar human chain protests on a few occasions in the past few years, with the last one on August 11, 2015, when they were in the opposition, to protest against the "wrong" policies of the state and central governments.
