The Left trade unions Friday called a strike across rural West Bengal Nov 26 in protest against the policies of the central and the state governments.
Transport, shops, markets and commercial establishments and factories will be under the purview of the strike, which coincides with the shutdown called by the Left peasants' bodies on the same day in the villages of the state.
The strike is mainly in protest against the central government's decision on scuttling the 100 days's rural work programme MNREGA.
"As per the decision, the programme will be implemented on in only 234 blocks of the state," CITU state president Shyamal Chakraborty said. Besides, there are issues regarding agricultural wages.
