A female leopard was killed Monday after it fell into a well at a tea garden in West Bengal's Jalpiaguri district, an official said.
The two-year-old leopard fell into the well in the Goodhope tea garden of Malbazar area early Monday morning. "We rescued the animal after the management of the tea garden informed us. But then it was already dead," said Divisional Forest Officer, Jalpaiguri, Sumita Ghatak.
The animal's post mortem revealed that it died of drowing as its lungs were filled with water, said Ghatak.
The leopard had strayed into the tea garden from a nearby forest and fell into the well by accident.
