Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday described Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan's decision to suspend 25 party MPs as "unfortunate" and said she was pressurized by the government.
Mahajan suspended the Congress MPs for flouting rules in the house.
"It is unfortunate. The BJP government should first see their past history. I also request Mahajan to look into previous history also. She was also a member of the house," Kharge told TimesNow news channel.
"During that period also members brought placards, (raised) slogans, everything," he added.
The Congress leader alleged that the speaker suspended his party colleagues due to pressure from the BJP-led government.
He accused the government of trying to divide the Opposition. "The CPI-M, CPI, RSP, TMC, NCP, RJD, JD-U, everybody is with us," Kharge said.
