Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd on Thursday said it sold 40,591 units in August -- up 14 per cent from 35,634 vehicles sold in the same month in 2016.
Sales in the passenger vehicles segment grew 29 per cent to 18,246 units from 14,198 units sold in the corresponding month in 2016.
The company's domestic sales stood at 36,944 units in August, registering a 15 per cent growth while its exports grew only 4 per cent to 3,647 units in the month, a company statement said.
The automobile manufacturer's sales picked up by sales of light commercial vehicles (weighing over 3.5 tonnes) with a 34 per cent rise, while the medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment sales rose 9 per cent to 371 units in the month. Sales of 3-wheelers dipped 4 per cent to 4,705.
"The improved spread of monsoon as well as new product launches have helped the auto industry perform positively. Coupled with this, the uncertainty surrounding diesel vehicles has been lifted by the Supreme Court giving the customer the choice to buy his preferred vehicles," said Pravin Shah, the company's President and Chief Executive (Automotive).
