M&M's September auto sector sales up eight per cent

Automobile manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) on Saturday reported an increase of eight per cent in its total sales for September.

The company sold 46,130 vehicles during the month under review compared to 42,848 vehicles during the corresponding period of last year.

According to the company, it has achieved a growth of 11 per cent during the six month period ended September 30.

"We are happy to have achieved an 11 per cent growth during the first six months of the current financial in spite of the various uncertainties and challenges," said Pravin Shah, President and Chief Executive (Automotive), M&M.

"Our exports during the six month period have seen a good growth of 18 per cent."

Shah said a good and near normal spread of monsoon as well as new vehicle launches have helped the auto industry perform positively.

"We do hope that the upcoming festive season brings in better demand due to improved sentiments," Shah added.

For last month, the company's domestic sales rose by seven per cent to 42,545 units, from 39,693 units sold in September last year.

The sales of passenger vehicles (which comprise utility vehicles, cars and vans) edged higher by five per cent to 20,537 units, from 19,564 units during the like month of 2015.

In addition, commercial vehicles segment's sales rose by 11 per cent to 16,081 units, from an off-take of 14,430 units during September 2015.

Moreover, three-wheelers' off-take increased by four per cent to 5,927 units from 5,699 units clocked in the like period of last year.

The company's exports surged by 14 per cent to 3,585 units from 3,155 units shipped-out during September 2015.
