Two Macedonians have set a Guinness World Record for 24-hour car pushing with a distance of 95.12 kilometres, beating the previous mark of 84.2 kms set by two Americans six years ago.

Aleksandar Chekorov and Aleksandar Smilkov began the challenge Saturday morning pushing a Daewoo Matiz car on a circular lane here, reports Xinhua.

A seven-member panel, including prominent sports professionals, appointed by the Guinness World Record observed the whole process. Six people rotated to steer the car every 4 hours and the two challengers could pause as the time kept ticking.

All documentations including video record for the whole process have been submitted to Guinness World Records for the final verification.

Chekorov is an experienced marathon runner. He holds Macedonian records in 6- and 10-day ultra-marathon races, which is 558 kms and 890 kms, respectively. Smilkov is also a marathon runner and a fitness trainer.

"Fifteen years ago I came across one edition of the Guinness World Records where I saw two people pushing a car and after meeting Smilkov one year ago, the idea to break the record came to my mind," Chekorov said Sunday.

They are confident to hold the record for a while as they beat the old record by over 10 kms.
