Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday appealed to the general public to maintain communal harmony, referring to the lynching of a Muslim man in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh over suspicion of cow slaughter.

In his audio message posted on Twitter, Kejriwal urged: "Do not be influenced by what poisonous politicians say. It is very easy for them to instigate communal violence but their politics will end if we do not get influenced by them."

"This violence has benefited the politicians and political parties only. And it has broken the harmony in the village which was there since 70 years."

Kejriwal, who visited the village on Saturday also appealed to media not to report the "provocative" comments made by politicians.

Earlier, he had questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "silence" on the issue and tweeted: "Collusion between parties in the state and Centre? What is happening is quite dangerous."

"PM's silence almost a tacit approval," he had tweeted.

Kejriwal also asked people to share his message widely on the social media.
