The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and Mumbai Regional Congreas Committee (MRCC) on Wednesday passed a unanimous resolution demanding that party Vice President Rahul Gandhi should be elevated as the Congress President.
The resoluion was passed at a meeting of top party office bearers from the state and city which was also attended by party incharge of Maharashtra Mohan Prakash.
MPCC President Ashok Chavan and MRCC President Sanjay Nirupam moved a brief resolution, which was seconded by top leaders including Sushilkumar Shinde, Prithviraj Chavan, Naseem Khan, Manikrao Thakre, Hussain Dalwai, Vasant Purke, Vilas Muttemwar, Rajni Patil, Eknath Gaekwad, Vishwajit Kadam and others.
Later it was put to vote and unanimously approvedat the meeting held in state Congreas headquarters at Tilak Bhavan late on Wednesday night.
Ashok Chavan also moved another resolution authorising Congress President Sonia Gandhi to appoint party chiefs in the Maharashtra, Mumbai and all other districts in the state.
It was seconded by Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, Sharad Ranpise and Charan Singh Sapra, and unanimously approved.

The move to make Rahul Gandhi follows a similar resolutions passed by Delhi Congress and some other state units recently.
