Malayalam movie 'Ottal' shines at IFFK awards

Director R. Jayaraj's Malayalam movie "Ottal" (The Trap) on Friday swept all top awards, including the coveted Suvarna Chakoram (Golden Crow Pheasant), at the 20th International Film Festival of India (IFFK).

Kerala Governor, Chief Justice (retd.) P. Sathasivam handed over the award to Jayaraj at the closing ceremony of the IFFK here.

Besides, "Ottal" won the Best Film of the International Federation of Film

Critics (FIPRESCI) jury, the Best Malayalam film of the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) jury and audience poll awards.

The Suvarna Chakoram consists of a Rs.15 lakh cash award, a certificate and a memento.

The Rajatha Chakoram for the best director was awarded to Jun Robles Lana for the Filipino film "Shadow Behind the Moon". It consists of a cash award of Rs.4 lakh, certificate and a memento.

The Rajatha Chakoram for the best debut director went to Bangladesh's Abu Shahed Emon for "Jalal's Story" while Israeli film "Yona" won the NETPAC Best Asian film award.

Legendary Iranian filmmaker Dariush Mehrjui, whose films were shown in the retrospective segment, was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
