The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) election steering committee has fixed Nov 30 for its central working committee (CWC) election to choose national-level office bearers.

Party president G. Palanivel said the polls are for the posts of a deputy president, three vice-presidents and 23 members of the CWC, the New Straits Times reported Friday.

However, Palanivel expressed the hope there will be no contest for the deputy presidency held by S. Subramaniam.

The date for nomination of candidates is Nov 16.

Nomination day for the youth and Wanita or women's wings is Nov 8 and the polling will be held Nov 16, the same day as the main party's nominations.

Formed in 1946, the MIC is one of the oldest political parties in Malaysia. It is one of the three major constituents of Malaysia's ruling Barisan Nasional coalition, the other two being the United Malays National Organisation and the Malaysian Chinese Association.
