Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Swati Maliwal on Monday said she was questioned by the ACB over alleged illegalities and asked to answer 27 questions within a week.

Anti-Corruption Bureau officials spoke to Maliwal at length at her office regarding allegations that she appointed employees without following due procedure.

This followed a complaint from her predecessor, Barkha Singh of the Congress.

"Twenty-seven questions have been asked from us which we need to answer within a week," Maliwal told the media.

"We have been asked why we are working so much," she said sarcastically. "The fact is that in the last one year we have worked on 11,500 cases and attended to over two lakh calls on 181.

"Whereas the complainant (Barkha Singh), during her tenure of eight years, worked on only one case," Maliwal said.

"In a city where every day one 'Nirbhaya' like incident is happening, DCW is raising such questions. This is what is bothering them.

"I will cooperate with the investigation and will submit all documents and respond to all their questions because I know I have done no wrong," she added.

"All appointments have been done legally and through the procedure of DCW. All appointments bear the seal of the Commission."

Maliwal asked why Barkha Singh was not being questioned although she had appointed wives of IPS and IAS officers during her tenure even though only one case was tackled.
