Kolkata, April 27 (IANS) BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi Saturday described Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as an "honest" person and hoped she would tack action against West Bengal politicians involved with the chit fund mess and the tainted Saradha Group.
The Bihar deputy chief minister, who was here for an event organised by Bharat Chamber of Commerce, said "She (Mamata Banerjee) is an honest lady. I hope she will take strong action against those involved."
Without naming the Trinamool Congress, Modi said the parties should take action so that politicians involved with chit funds pay the price for patronising such firms.
"I am not taking name of any party. But the parties concerned should take action against individuals involved in the chit fund scam. They (those politicians involved) should pay the price for patronising such elements," Modi said on the sidelines of the event Bharat Chamber of Commerce event.
The Bharatiya Janata Party leader was responding to a set of questions on the alleged involvement of the Trinamool Congress leaders in the multi-billion rupee chit fund muddle that came to the fore when the Saradha Group went bust.
Turning to Bihar, he said though such shady companies were operating on a large scale in his state, no political individual has any link with chit funds.
Stating that chit fund companies like Rose Valley were operating in Bihar, he said the state government was taking action against the company.
"We are also very scared with the operation of chit fund companies n Bihar as well as West Bengal," Modi said.
