West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Tuesday called up newly-appointed governor Kesari Nath Tripathi.
"I spoke to the new governor over phone. I welcomed him to Bengal. I will meet him next week," Banerjee said.
Tripathi, who succeeded M.K. Narayanan, praised Banerjee after Rashtrapati Bhavan Monday announced his appointment.
"There is a misunderstanding that she (Banerjee) is very aggressive. But I see her as a fearless lady, extremely honest with an absolute conviction," he said.
Tripathi is a former Allahabad High Court advocate who has thrice served as speaker in the Uttar Pradesh assembly.
