A 27-year-old graduate has been arrested for allegedly duping people by using their ATM card details to purchase and then encash Metro Travel Cards, police said here on Sunday.

"He would purchase 20-50 Metro Travel Cards and recharge them. He would later return the recharged cards at the Metro station counter and collect cash against the recharged value of Metro Travel Cards," Sudhir Kumar, chief of cyber crime cell, told IANS.

Identified as Manoj Kumar Gupta, from Uttar Pradesh's Khushinagar district, the arrested man was presented before the court of duty magistrate Kumud Gugnani on Sunday and sent into 14-day judicial custody.

According to police, whenever anyone visited an ATM machine to withdraw money, Gupta, living as a tenant in Sikanderpur village on Mehrauli-Gurgaon road here, would approach him on some pretext and collect details such as the ATM card number, CVV number, expiry date, PIN number etc.

Gupta would then visit cyber cafes in Sikanderpur village, and recharge the Metro Travel Cards online with the help of ATM cards' details.

A Metro Travel Card costs between Rs.150 and Rs.160. Many such cards were recovered from him.
