A 21-year-old man was arrested for cheating several people by promising them jobs in Delhi Metro, police said Thursday.

Amit Chauhan, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, was arrested Tuesday from central Delhi's Connaught Place area on a tip-off, police said.

Chauhan had come to Delhi in search of a job over two years ago and met his accomplice Ajay, a resident of Gurgaon, through an online job portal. To earn a quick buck, he joined Ajay in his business of cheating people, police said.

"He (Chauhan) would lure job seekers online by promising them lucrative jobs with reputed companies like Delhi Metro and would get around Rs.20,000 as commission per candidate from Ajay," a police officer said.

The arrest came following a complaint in March 2012 by one of the victims who had been duped of Rs.60,000 by Chauhan on the pretext of offering a job in Delhi Metro.

The victim was given an appointment letter on a fake Delhi Metro letter head and was asked to join in July 2012. Thereafter, Chauhan changed his mobile number and disappeared.

According to police, Ajay is absconding.
