Following 10-day economic blockade imposed by tribal groups, mainly from Manipur's hill districts, people from the valley's districts started imposing counter-blockades from Monday.
Dozens of women came out in the Imphal-Ukhrul road to intercept vehicles. They allowed the vehicles to proceed but after off-loading their goods.
One woman activist told IANS that these items will be handed over to the rightful owners once the economic blockade is over.
Several women activists said, "Nobody should be angry with us since our campaign is not directed against any tribe or community. Our stand is clear. Since people in the valley are denied everything the hill-dwellers should also feel the pinch."
Police are conspicuous by their absence from the checking points and there has been no report of intervention.
Meanwhile government has not announced any arrangements for providing armed escorts to the trucks. Various perishable goods inside the stranded trucks along two national highways passing through the state are rotting in the sun.
