Automobile major Maruti Suzuki India on Friday launched its premium urban compact vehicle Ignis.
According to the company, the petrol variant of the vehicle has been introduced at an ex-showroom price (New Delhi) of Rs 4.59 lakh and the diesel variant from Rs 6.39 lakh onwards.
The other category -- automated manual transmission -- for the petrol powered model starts at a price of Rs 5.74 lakh while the diesel fuelled car comes with at a starting price tage of Rs 6.94 lakh.
The company said the compact vehicle is built on a new generation rigid platform embodying Suzuki's "Total Effective Control Technology" (TECT) for occupant protection.
"It (Ignis) combines unconventional design, seamless smartphone experience with AndroidAuto and Apple CarPlay, technological supremacy with AGS on petrol and diesel, advanced safety features as standard and personalisation options, making it unique on every parameter," Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Maruti Suzuki, was quoted as saying in a statement.
"IGNIS at NEXA will help us expand our presence in the premium compact segment."

The new premium urban compact vehicle comes with two engine options. The petrol variant comes with a VVT engine (1.2L) which delivers power of 61kW at the rate of 6,000 rpm (rotation per minute) with a torque of 113Nm at the rate of 4,200 rpm.
The diesel powered Ignis features a DDiS 190 diesel engine (1.3L) which delivers power in the tune of 55.2 kW at the rate of 4,000 rpm with a torque of 190Nm at the rate of 2,000 rpm.
"A well-tuned suspension delivers a stable and comfortable ride. Technologies such as intelligent battery management, gear shift indicator, low rolling-resistance tyres - make the IGNIS drive highly efficient," the statement said.
The company disclosed that the company along with its suppliers has invested over Rs 950 crore towards development of IGNIS which comes with a 98.5 per cent localisation level.
The passenger car major added that its target customer for the new vehicle is millennials or people born between 1980 and 2000.
