A joint operation by the police and security forces in Assam's Kokrajhar district resulted in an NDFB cadre being gunned down Friday.
Police identified the militant, killed in the shootout at Jhargaon village under Serfangguri police station in Kokrajhar district, as Laopani, a cadre of the NDFB anti-talk faction.
Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar said: "The slain militant, the outfit's platoon commander, masterminded the Kokrajhar grenade blast ahead of Independence Day celebration yesterday (Thursday). He was also involved in abduction of two Tata group employees July 19."
One Chinese M20 pistol was recovered from the militant's possession, Sunil Kumar said.
