The Max super specialty hospital on Tuesday inaugrated the country's first Day care chemotherapy center, which aims to give a more homely atmosphere to the treatment undergoing patients.

The 15-bed centre will be headed by India's leading cancer specialist and former Dean (academics) of AIIMS, P.K Julka.

According to the hospital, the centre will also cater to poor people, according to the Delhi government norms.

"The facility will offer personalised care in an 'un-hospital' like environment. The services at this centre are designed to enhance patient experience, while undergoing therapy for cancer. Also, with new therapies being developed it is quite important that these be delivered in a clinical environment, which is fully controlled and completely safe," said Julka, during the inaugration of the centre, located in Lajpat Nagar of South Delhi.

The facility will have several practices like survivorship programme, Max Saathi volunteering, etc. along with a library to enhance the well-being and recovery of the patients.

Max Healthcare MD and CEO Rajit Mehta said: "Cancer is a dreaded disease and there is a dire need for providing speciality care in the country. Max Healthcare's vision is to provide a fully developed, dedicated cancer facility to cancer patients. The first step towards realising our dream of an integrated cancer facility for patients is the launch of the cancer day care centre."

He said this came up keeping in mind changing models of hospitals and the growing global trend of setting up standalone facilities that do not require a traditional hospital-like set-up, and they plan to launch similar centres in the coming years.
