The government might consider amending existing laws to make them tougher for juveniles who commit heinous crimes repeatedly, a minister said Tuesday.
"We can consider making a small amendment (in the laws) ... that if a juvenile commits heinous crimes or rapes repeatedly, then what action can be taken," union Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath said here Tuesday.
A parliamentary committee had recently suggested lowering the age bar for juveniles from 18 years to 16 years.
The minister said she was not in favour of changing the present definition of a juvenile, according to which those below 18 years of age are children.
