Hundreds of men wearing skirts marched through capital Buenos Aires appealing for gender equality and protesting violence against women in the south American nation, the media reported.
Kilts, pleats, ruffles, long and short -- skirts of all kinds adorned the marching men on Thursday who carried placards with slogans against gender violence, EFE news reported.
"This march was very useful to convey to my son he can wear a skirt for his sister, his mother and his friends from school, and understand there is no privilege in being a male," said a protestor, who was accompanied by his young son.
He explained that he was wearing a skirt to break "some stereotypes" about what humiliates a man, which is violence and not wearing something feminine.
The protest went viral on social media with slogans that included "Ponete la pollera si sos hombre" (wear a skirt if you are a man) and "unomasporniunamenos" (one more for one less).
The initiative has been replicated in different parts of Argentina and hopes to achieve the same effect as the June march called "Ni una menos" (not one less), which was supported by politicians, journalists and celebrities.
