Mexican national team striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez underwent successful surgery here to repair his fractured collarbone, and the prognosis for his recovery is four weeks, the Mexican football federation said in a statement.

"Javier Hernandez's surgery ended successfully. The player is in post-operative recovery," the federation said on Twitter on Thursday, reports Efe.

No complications occurred during the operation, in which two plates were inserted in the forward's right collarbone with screws, the Mexican squad's physician, Gerardo Aguilar, was quoted as saying.

"The prognosis is quite acceptable and there are very high expectations for his rapid recovery, which is expected will be four weeks," Aguilar said.

Mexico has called up Javier "Chuletita" Orozco to replace Chicharito on the squad that will compete in the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament, which will be played in the United States and Canada and be held from July 7 to July 26.

Hernandez, who played last season for Real Madrid on a loan deal from Manchester United, sustained the injury when he fell awkwardly to the ground after going up for a header and colliding with defender Brayan Beckeles during a pre-Gold Cup friendly Wednesday night between Mexico against Honduras in Houston.

Mexico will kick off its Gold Cup campaign on July 9 against Cuba and also play Group C round-robin matches against Guatemala and Trinidad and Tobago.
