Mexico tied Venezuela 1-1 in their Copa America Centenario football tournament final group match at the NRG Stadium.
As both teams had already qualified for the knockout stage, Mexico only needed a draw to secure the first place of the group in order to avoid a probable quarter-final matchup with tournament favourites Argentina, reports Xinhua.
Mexico dominated the play from the beginning here on Monday but never found the net until Jesus Manuel Corona's sensational run in the 80th minute.
Corona who missed several chances, took on five defenders before firing off a shot from 10 yards for the equaliser.
Venezuela went ahead with a 10th minute goal when Jose Manuel Velazquez received a header from Christian Santos and volleyed home.
In the 84th minute, Mexico's goalkeeper Jose de Jesus Corona ensured they didn't concede again as he saved a bicycle kick from Venezuela's Josef Martinez.
