A hideout of the United A'chik Liberation Army (UALA) was Tuesday busted in Meghalaya's insurgency-hit Garo Hills, police said.
"We busted a makeshift camp of the UALA at Ambare Chiring hills, but a group of militants camping there escaped before the arrival of the security forces," Inspector General of Police (Operations) G.H.P. Raju told IANS.
A joint team of Meghalaya's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) commandos launched a crackdown at Ambare Chiring hills in North Garo Hills district on receiving inputs about the presence of 20 militants.
Security forces seized two detonators, fuse wires and incriminating documents from the camp, he said.
UALA chief Singbirth Marak alias Norrok X. Momin is wanted for the killing of two Meghalaya jail officials and also for masterminding the killing of seven Rabha tribesmen in Assam's Goalpara district last year.
