The number of accidents involving military aircraft has significantly reduced over the past few decades, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Friday.
The number of such accidents has come down from an average of 29 per year during 1970s to 17 per year during 2001-10, Parrikar said during question hour in the Lok Sabha.
It further came down to just nine accident per year during 2011-15, he said.
"The aircraft flying now are the ones that are in a condition to fly," he said.
The defence minister said helicopter accidents too came down from an average of five per year a few years ago to just 1.4 per year now.
Parrikar said every aircraft accident was thoroughly investigated to ascertain the cause and that the recommendations of the court of inquiry were implemented.
