The central government has agreed to provide financial assistance to Himachal Pradesh for strengthening transport in the state's remote areas, an official statement said here Friday.
"The centre has agreed to provide grants for plying minibuses in snowbound areas. For this, the state will soon send a detailed project report to the union tribal ministry," the statement said, quoting Tribal Development Minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri.
Bharmouri, who was accompanied by Himachal Road Transport Corporation vice chairman Kewal Singh Pathania, met Union Tribal Affairs Minister V. Kishore Chandra Deo in New Delhi and pleaded for liberal financial assistance.
Meanwhile, Deo is touring the tribal areas of Pangi and Bharmour in Chamba district next month to evaluate the performance of the central government sponsored development projects.
