Passengers on the Trivandrum-Chennai Express on Friday evening had a miraculous escape after the train engine to the first coach got uncoupled near here, officials said.
According to Southern Railways, the accident happened between Kochuveli and Kazhakootam, when the engine broke free of the following generator van.
Since the train was moving at a slow speed, a major disaster was averted as the bogies stopped after moving forward slightly. Meanwhile the engine was also brought to a halt, an official said.
After a 30-minute delay, during which the engine was firmly coupled, the train began its onward journey.
Even though railway officials have claimed that the issue was not serious, a probe will take place.
