As authorities launched a search operation at the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters near Sirsa town on Friday, the Haryana government announced suspension of all mobile and dongle internet services, except voice calls, in Sirsa district till September 10.
A Home Department spokesman said the decision was taken to curb spread of rumours in the district following the initiation of sanitisation of the dera headquarters amid tight security following a go-ahead by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on September 5.
He said Internet services of all telecom providers would remain suspended, including sending of SMSes, in the district for the said period.
Security agencies and district authorities began search operations at the dera headquarters amid curfew in the area.
The searches, to be videotaped, are being conducted under the supervision of Court Commissioner A.K.S. Pawar, a retired District and Sessions Judge, appointed by the High Court.
Senior district civil and police officers, along with paramilitary forces and Haryana Police, were involved in the operation in the sprawling 700-acre campus.
