Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday condoled the demise of Kerala assembly speaker G. Karthikeyan, saying the "grassroots" leader would be remembered for his relentless service to the people of the state.
"My condolences to the family and well-wishers of Kerala Assembly Speaker G. Karthikeyan on his demise. May his soul rest in peace," Modi said in a condolence message to the bereaved family.
"G. Karthikeyan will be remembered as a grassroots leader who dedicated his life to serving the people of Kerala," he added.
Karthikeyan, 66, died on Saturday at a hospital in Bengaluru where he was being treated for liver cancer, the Congress party said.
He was a prominent Congress leader who twice served as a minister in the state cabinet and was elected to the assembly six times.
