Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Indian scientists who are among the recipients of the Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics, an official statement said on Wednesday.
"Congratulations to the Indian scientists who are among the recipients of the Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics. These scientists have been awarded for detection of gravitational waves, an exceptional scientific accomplishment," Modi said in a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office.
The Selection Committee of the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics had on Tuesday announced a Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics, recognizing scientists and engineers contributing to the momentous detection of gravitational waves -- a detection announced on February 11, 2016.
The announcement was made in San Francisco.
