Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a meeting of his council of ministers to review progress on schemes related to some ministries and laid thrust on faster delivery of government initiatives.

The meeting lasted about two-and-half-hours.

The sources said the meeting reviewed schemes and government initiatives related to ministries such as agriculture, chemical and fertilizer and water resources.

They said such meetings were likely to be held every month.

Modi had earlier held meetings with groups of secretaries who presented their ideas and suggestions on issues such as "Swasth Bharat, Shikshit Bharat (Healthy India, Educated India)", "innovative budgeting and effective implementation" and "Ganga Rejuvenation".

Modi's meeting with his team of ministers to review implementation of schemes came a day after his government completed 20 months in office.
