The Left parties on Saturday said there was "nothing new" in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech attacking Pakistan and added that the BJP-led central government lacked concrete policies to deal with the Pakistan and Kashmir issues.

"The Prime Minister believes only in rhetoric, we have seen and heard him saying these things during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and are hearing it again. It seems Modi believes he is still in the opposition because we have heard only words... Where is the action?" Communist Party of India-Marxist politburo member Mohammad Salim told IANS.

Addressing a party rally in Kerala's Kozhikode, Modi squarely targetted Pakistan for the Uri terror attack in which 18 soldiers were killed and asserted that India will make endeavours to isolate Pakistan globally for exporting terror.

But Salim questioned the efficacy.

"Post the Pathankot attack we have seen similar posturing by the Modi government and now after the Uri attack, they are once again doing the same. Does this government have any concrete policy regarding Pakistan and Kashmir?" asked Salim.

"Only words will not suffice, the government has to come out with definitive plans and policies regarding Pakistan and Kashmir. But unfortunately we have not seen anything like that from this government," he added.

Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary D. Raja echoed a similar view.

"Modi was addressing a party rally so he is bound to indulge in rhetoric. But whatever he said is nothing new. He has been saying these things for quite a few days now.

"The Prime Minister is indulging in rhetoric to cover his government's inefficiency," Raja told IANS.
