Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday paid tribute to Gopinath Munde, the rural development minister, who was killed following a road accident here.
Modi arrived at the BJP headquarters at 11 Ashoka Road and laid a wreath on Munde's glass coffin. He also offered his condolences to Munde's family.
Munde, 64, an important figure in Maharashtra politics, was going to the Indira Gandhi International Airport in his Maruti Suzuki SX4 car, which was hit by a Tata Indica at Aurobindo crossing around 6.20 a.m.
Munde's body is kept at the BJP headquarters for party leaders to pay their last respects from where it will be flown to Marathwada in Maharashtra.
The last rites will be performed Wednesday.
Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee also sent a wreath and paid his tributes.
Among other party leaders who paid their tributes were L.K. Advani, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Smriti Irani and M. Venkiah Naidu.
