Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic and top military officials Monday attended an opening ceremony of the Naval Operations Centre in the coastal town of Bar on the occasion of the armed forces day, Xinhua reported.

"We achieved independence in 2006 by democratic means then formed our own army for which we have been waiting for nearly nine decades. Today is an important day signalling stability and the territorial integrity of Montenegro," said Montenegro's Defence Minister Milica Pejanovic-Djurisic.

The day is slowly growing into a tradition. This is the seventh time the armed force day was marked in Montenegro, she added.

Montenegro, meaning "Black Mountain", is a country in the southeastern Europe. It has a coast on the Adriatic Sea to the south-west and is bordered by Croatia to the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest, Serbia to the northeast, Kosovo[a] to the east and Albania to the south-east.
