More golds for India in SAG archery

Indian archers continued to boost the hosts' medals tally at the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) by winning three golds in the Recurve event at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.

In the men's team event, India's Tarundeep Rai, Gurucharan Besra and Jayanta Talukdar) beat Sri Lanka's Anipuna Senevirathne, Indranath and Sajeev De Silva 5-1.

In the women's team event, India's Deepika Kumari, Bombayla Devi, Laxmirani Majhi outsmarted Sri Lanka's Dilhara Salgado, Anuradha Karunaratne and Suchini Ubeysiri 6-0.

In the mixed doubles event, Indian pair Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai defeated the Sri Lankan team of Dilhara Salgado and Nipuna Senevirathne 6-0.

In the individual women's category, India's Deepika Kumari won the gold by defeating her compatriot Bombayla Devi.

In the men's individual category, Tarundeep Rai won the gold while fellow Indian Gurucharan Besra had to settle for silver.

With Tuesday's haul, India have secured 10 gold and four silver medals in the archery competition. The Indian archers had earlier made a clean sweep in the Compound event with five golds and two silver.

Bangladesh have got three silver and an equal number of bronze medals. Bhutan have secured one silver and four bronze. Sri Lanka have bagged two silver medals, while Nepal will have to be satisfied with a lone bronze medal.
